Gingerbread

Good any time of year, not just for Christmas

Ingredients:

  • 125g Butter

  • 125g Soft Brown Sugar

  • 1 Medium Egg

  • 4 Tbsp golden Syrup

  • 350g Plain Flour

  • 1/2 tsp Bi Carb Soda

  • 1 Tbsp Ground Ginger

  • 1 Tsp ground Cinnamon

Basic Cost to make: Approx £ TBC

Equipment:

  • Stand mixer with beater attachment or a hand whisk

  • Scales

  • Lined Baking trays

  • Bowl/cup

  • Cling film

  • Rolling pin and cutters

  • Cooling racks

Method:

  • Line cookie/baking trays with baking paper and set aside.

  • Preheat oven to 170c (fan)

  • Sift together flour, bi Carb, & spices into a large bowl.

  • Add butter and mix to breadcrumb consistency.

  • Stir in the sugar

  • In a small bowl or cup, lightly beat together the egg and golden syrup then add to the dry mix.

  • Pulse to make a dough

  • Wrap in clingfilm and chill for 15mins in the fridge

  • Roll out to 1/2cm thick and cut to desired shapes. gather offcuts together and repeat until everything is used up.

  • Place on baking tray and bake for 15mins

  • Allow to cool on the tray and firm up.

  • Store in airtight container or tin.

Notes:

  • To decorate you can use chocolate or royal icing
